This is an interesting topic. Something that inspired me to try as I was reading a Facebook post in one of my quilting groups. Seems someone let the idea slip. I am not sure if this is new but I certainly did not know this. Even though Hatch embroidery software do have the capability to digitise photos, I find it is more artistic to break a photo down into minimal colours. This is where Adobe Illustrator comes in.
Adobe Illustrator has the ability to trace a photo breaking it down into basic colours of 3, 6 and 16 colours. This makes it easy to use less thread to embroider at the end of the day. As for Quilting, it is much easier to compile specific colours. There are many examples where photos were traced in Illustrator that is beautiful and more practical for art work like embroidery and quilting.
